Exciting News

Today, I signed not one, but two patent applications, for the device I helped design last co-op tour. I am one of three innovators listed on both.

Yes, that's correct. I will have two patents, at the tender age of 23.

Damn, I'm good.

Cool!!

Hopefully they don't make you write up the applications. Like they make me do. And hopefully you don't have to pay the lawyers' fees and application costs. Like they make me do. I'm filing one now (due in 3 weeks) for which the lawyers' demanded $7000 as a retainer and then gave me a $450 initial consultation bill (which arrived yesterday) on top of that.

Of course, they're going to end up changing about 10 words out of what I gave them originally, and those 10 words will have to be changed back because they're technically inaccurate. But I'm not cynical.

Actually, I think the engineer I was working for wrote up the application. I was back at school while he was doing that. And we have lawyers in-house, so that part's settled.

I figured that - I just wanted to whine about the tragic life of the small businessman.

Skyhawk, I thought this "exciting news" would be about Rocket Clemens returning to Houston.

But the other thing is good, too.

Those two patents are double the number that Abraham Lincoln ever got. So, you're two times better than Lincoln.

Or something like that.

I once walked all the way back to the MSC bookstore to return an extra penny they had mistakenly given me. It wasn't snowing, though.
